- Highly aligned, ultralong Ag nanowire films can spontaneously form at the three-phase interface of oil-water-air. The ordered films exhibit intrinsic large electromagnetic (EM) fields that are localized in the interstitials between adjacent nanowires. This new three-phase interface approach has been found to be a general route, and can be extended to self-assemble other ultralong nanowires to produce ordered films.

- Like mother nature: Biologically inspired organic-inorganic hybrid films comprising alternating layers of chitosan and micro- and nanoplatelets of layered double hydroxides mimic the unique layered microstructures of seashell nacre (see picture) and display high tensile strength. Moreover, the hybrid films can be endowed with the optical properties of the platelets.

Frontispiece paper: Magnetic-functionalized reduced graphene nanocomposites with tunable magnetic properties can be successfully synthesized by in situ decorating magnetite nanoparticles on the reduced graphene sheets through high-temperature decomposition of Fe(acac)3 precursor in polyol. This approach opens up the availability of functionalized reduced graphene sheets with magnetic nanoparticles and creates a new class of graphene-based composites with unique properties for potential applications such as magnetic resonance imaging or protein separation.
